EDUCATION AS CIVILIZATION BUILDING

The WFS has a responsibility to:

  • Foster an educational system that encourages:
    • Creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship from all individuals – based on different learning styles and multiple intelligences
    • Individuals sharing ideas
    • Integrity
    • Ethical code/values based education
    • Everyone to find their own challenges
    • Integrative, holistic learning – beyond testing
  • A formal course on future studies required in all educational systems
  • Formal future networks required for all educational systems
  • Education that emphasizes the ability to cope with changing conditions and the ability to continue learning new things as the need arises.
  • How to learn to find the latest information fast, analyze and question it
  • Formal and informal learning culture/systems/institutions that accept continuous, life-time self-learning that is
    • Catalyst for learning how to learn
    • Facilitating best practices exchange
    • Dynamic system
  • Annual ideas should be added to an ongoing education WFS website so that ideas are not lost. What happens to them?
  • How to adapt information and ideas to your local needs
  • How formal education can cooperate with others (community, business, etc.) in a positive way
  • Promoting interdisciplinary interaction and approaches
  • A common database/link/forum for sharing and analyzing data and information and ideas –
    • Common gap analysis
    • Share what works
  • Bring our futurist business acumen to the futurist challenge
    • On the job training + most meaningful learning/working on our shared challenge: to build a better world ASAP
    • Using : 6 emergent social technologies of the information economy:
      1. communities of practice
      2. open knowledge
      3. open source software
      4. open innovation
      5. “work” embedded learning
      6. grass roots r&d
    • Using 4 emergent information technologies:
      1. peer to peer file sharing
      2. instant messaging
      3. blogs
      4. wikis – learning locally, sharing globally
    • =  Let a thousand collaborations bloom
  • we need to get maximum benefit from the WFS programs that already exist and no one seems to know about
  •  “Raising all boats” – equal educational opportunities for all
  • system that engages educational institutions to implement a futuring/planning  model/program as Intel did on a factory basis
  • System that understands and applies the idea that success in education depends on recognizing its interdependence with the community.
  • Continue to link the future studies courses we already have around the world together to from a Master’s program
  • Recognize and embrace our (WFS) role in leadership in futures education
  • Establish futures cafes
  • Establish futures Radio Station
  • Establish futures TV station

  • Work actively to develop curriculum for public education (see Stephen Aguilar-Milan’s daughter Charlotte’s (14 years old) program
  • Workshops for adults ( CA has some, Venezuela , Korea )
  • Collaborative chapter meetings

    • awake Korea to promote family future education
  • Condense WFS articles for class taken by college freshman
  • Student futurist networks
  • Christy Dugger will lead student futurist network and wants a workshop for International youth at WFS Conference - to present

Also create area on the website for members to help us answer these questions and share what is working.
